The History of NCRCBA
Founded 1972 by the first members: Chuck and Bev Matthews(Polish), Ken and Mollie Storrer(Dutch), Jeff and Sue Storrer(Dutch & Poish), David and Eulalia Wickham(Himalayans), Al and Addie Croup(Satins), Cliff and Donna Trudeau(Fr.Lop & Satins & Flemish Giants). Later Clay and Bev Johnston and family(French Angoras & Checkered Giants & Flemish Giants), Mr. & Mrs. Roger Cota(Dwarf Hotots), Ed Yorton(Checkard Giants), Bruce Ironsides(Checkard Giants), Mike and Joe Bolger(Aassorted Breeds), Walter Brygidowicz(English Spots), Don and Sara Irving and family(Polish & Palomino), Kay and Earl Hyatt(Multiple breeds), John and Karen Lowery(French Lops & Flemish Giants) and Fred Johanson(Palamino) joined.
Bev Matthews made the patch and banner for the club. A great thanks goes out to her for her wonderful work.
In the beginning we were known as North Country Rabbit Breeders Association. This name was created by Chuck Matthews because most of the members were above Syracuse, which was home of the Empire Club. But in the late 1990's we changed our name to include the cavies. So today you know us as North Country Rabbit and Cavy Breeders Association.
As times changed so did our membership fees. In the beginning for one year you could belong to us for only $ 3.00 per person, $ 5.00 per couple, and $ 7.00 per family. But since times change and so does money value we unfortunately changed our fees. So now it's $ 5.00 per person, $ 7.00 per couple and $ 10.00 per family. To get a Lifetime Membership you must belong for 25 years. As of right now there are only three (3) lifetime memebers. A Special Thanks to those Members, Ed Yorton, David H. and Eulalia Wickham.
Our first show was held at the Syracuse Fairgrounds in 1972. The judges at our first show were Dick Kuehnle, Sam Rizzo and Floyd Tobias. These three judges deserve a great thanks for being the three judges at our first show.
A special Thanks goes out to everyone in the past and present that has made our club possible, thank you everyone.
